Package: udev
Version: 170-1
Severity: critical
--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
I have a wheezy box that I upgraded udev from 167-3 to 170-1 last week when the
new udev package hit testing.
After the upgrade, I have no mouse or keyboard when X starts. Now that the new
udev is installed I do see that kernel 2.6.32 is required.
The 167 version required kernel version 2.6.27. I have kernel 2.6.30
installed.
At boot, I see a message saying udev requires kernel > 2.6.32 not started.
In Xorg.0.log it says "The server relies on udev to provide the list of input
devices.
If no devices become available, reconfigure udef or disable AutoAddDevices".
I found how to disable AutoAddDevices in xorg.conf.
I'm not sure if I did it right but now in Xorg.0.log I see messages like failed
to load module kbd and failed to
load module mouse instead of the previous message saying udev would provide the
list of input devices.
The problem is that it seems that a lot of things don't work. I see messages
during boot
like error fetching interface information: Device not found. I'm not sure if
the network is working. The keyboard does work
when I boot into single user/recovery mode.
Is there some way I can recover from this given that I can get into recover
mode? What are some things I can try?
Note: this report is being sent from a different computer so the system
information below is not for the computer that has the problem.
The problem computer was up to date for wheezy/testing as of 6-17-2011 when the
new udev was installedexcept for a 2.6.30 kernel.

Closes: 631294
Changes:
udev (171-2) unstable; urgency=medium
.
* Converted libudev0 and libgudev-1.0-0 to multiarch.
* This requires switching to debhelper level v8.
* Fixed a preinst bug which caused it to check the required kernel
version only when upgrading from versions <= 150-1. Updated as well
the version of the kernel packages in the Breaks directive.
(Closes: #631294)
* Share the changelogs between libudev0 and udev to save 100 kB on
every Debian system.
