Subject: php3-mysql is delivered stillborn
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Package: php3-mysql
Version: 3.0.16-2
Severity: grave
For the mysql module to be of use with PHP, it must be listed in
/etc/php3/apache/php.ini. The listed package does not do this.
(The severity 'grave' appears to be the closest match for "installed
package unuseable". The only reason that a user would have for
installing this package would be to make MySQL accessible from PHP. If
this were not the user's intent, (s)he would not have installed it in
the first place. Consequently, installing the package as it currently
stands fails to achieve the user's basic purpose. Guidance on the
appropriateness of this severity is welcome.)
When combined with PHP's unique diagnostic procedure (return zero bytes
of output, no errors or warnings and a successful exit code), this bug
is particularly difficult to find. Even if there is some reason for
installing the module disabled, the amount of user time wasted in
tracking this down may indicate that the reason should be reviewed.

Dear reporter,
php3 has been removed from Debian unstable/testing, because it's superseded
by php4 and php5. Please see #330656 for more information.
This bug does not apply to php4 or php5, so I'm closing it now.
Thank you for your report,
