I've started using the Gnome MIME type system (thanks for that
pointer). But now there's an extra two required dialog boxes I have
to go through for each link with a MIME type that requires a helper,
and that's really cutting into my experience on one of my favorite web
sites.
Specifically, I've set up the MIME type application/smil to be handled
by the program /usr/local/bin/smil.helper. The equivalent setup in
older galeon allowed one-click execution of the helper. Now, though,
I first have the dialog box saying "hey, this can't be executed in the
browser, so you have to download" (one extra dialog), then I have to
see the download dialog as it completes and press another button
saying "Open" when that's done (another extra dialog). And all this
just to listen to a RealAudio file from NPR. This isn't exactly
progress....
In summary, I'd like one-click execution of helper apps back again.

Version: 2.0.7-2.1+rm
galeon was last released with Debian 6.0 (squeeze) in
February 2011 and removed from Debian sid/unstable in 2012 (see
http://bugs.debian.org/655053 for details on the removal). Since
support for squeeze and squeeze-LTS has now ended, I'm closing all the
remaining bugs reported against this package.
