Package: gmp
Severity: wishlist

Hello Steve,

Thanks for the quick packaging of 4.2 ! There is a new feature in this
release that IMO we could enable in the debian package: --enable-fat.

At the cost of a slightly larger binary, optimised assembly versions
for every cpu are included. This is critical for example on my test
machine (Pentium-4) where I get a speedup by almost a factor of two on
a typical application (gmp-ecm).

The resulting debian packages are larger by about 10%. Note that you
may prefer to wait for 4.2.1 before (due real soon now).

Cheers,

Laurent.
