Package: ifplugd
Version: 0.25-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I've been trying out ifplugd and like the concept. However, one thing
it handles really poorly is a situation in which more than one interface
have a link.

Here's an example:

I have both a wireless and a wired interface available to the same
network. I have DHCP running, and it will give my machine the same IP
address on either interface, which is the right thing to do.

Now, often I work in wireless mode, but sometimes I need the added speed
of a real Ethernet connection. So I plug it in.

This gets ifplugd all confused. It will try to bring up eth0 without
first downing the wireless interface. This will fail, since DHCP tries
to bind the same IP to the wired interface.

ifplugd could solve this easily by having a "one at a time" option -- it
will only have one interface configured at any given time, and will run
the down action on any other interfaces it's configured before it sets
up that one. Combined with a simple priority mechanism (maybe just an
ordered list -- if eth0 occurs first, it takes priority over
everything), it would be very effective and simple.

There doesn't seem to be a good way to accomplish this now.

Thoughts?
