I was under that false impression as well. But then to my surprise I noticed today that RHEL updated openjdk-6: https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2013-0246.html I would think this weighs in favour of keeping openjdk-6 in wheezy; users would be better served if patched releases can be made available, rather than if it is dropped and they are left with the last version that oldstable had.
