Maybe it would be more elegant to do something like this + $ENV{"TEXMFVAR"} = "$TEXMFMAIN"; + $ENV{"TEXMFSYSVAR"} = "$TEXMFMAIN"; (or whatever the current name for our tree is, and probably needs to be expanded by kpsewhich, not the shell).
