qemu on testing is currently the same as on wheezy/stable, which is of version 1.1. Lots of stuff changed since that version, and fakeroot is sort of known to not work with wheezy version. Can you please try the version of qemu currently in unstable to see if it changes anything in there? If not, I think the best will be to turn this bugreport into a wishlist item -- a wish to support fakeroot. Besides, having a version number for the bugreport is nice too. So please tell me whenever I guessed it right and you're running version 1.1.2+dfsg-6a of qemu-user-static.
