It definitely wont be fixed for wheezy. We have lots of other more important limitations there which wont be fixed either, unfortunately - for example, almost any multi-threaded program does not work, including those who run current version of clone(2) to spawn another process -- which basically means you can't run another program from a process running by qemu-user. Fakeroot is an unusual thing that interferes with the dynamic linker in a somewhat non-trivial way. It should be possible to make it to work if you use the preloaded shared object from the emulated architecture, but faked from the host architecture (I think anyway).
