However, upstream strongly recommends against mixing packages from
different sources.  The usual recommendation from Patrick et al. is "get
enigmail from the same channels you get your MUA from"

So if you get Thunderbird from mozilla upstream directly, you are
expected to get enigmail from enigmail upstream directly.

If you get icedove from debian, then you are expected to get enigmail
from debian.

If a user wants to ignore the advice and suggestion of upstream, it's
certainly possible to create a phony package that Provides: icedove via
something like the equivs [0] tool.  but i'm not sure we want to
encourage that behavior by users who aren't making that kind of active
choice.
