The justification for grave would be that the whole package was unusable
without a way to work around it or it was affected by a security
vulnerability. This is not the case here. This is an annoying bug,
agreed, but there is a simple workaround and most films could be viewed
or downloaded. I can't even fix the bug in MediathekView itself because
the URLs are part of the film list which is downloaded at startup. The
parameters are correct but the input was wrong.

In stable we still use libav, so you have to replace ffmpeg with avconv
and install the libav-tools package. However the project migrates to
ffmpeg in Stretch again. I never had to use both for MediathekView
though but in some cases they might be useful.

Will do.
