Package: mysql-server-4.1
Version: 4.1.15-1
Severity: important

I've noticed a behaviour where /var/log/mysql endlessly increases. This
has serious consequences on /var becoming full, which is a bad
situation.

Binary logs seem to be created in default config (why ?... only
necessary for special needs ?), rotated and never purged.

The value KEEP_BINARY_LOGS is at 0 by default in
/etc/mysql/debian-log-rotate.conf

The comments in this file state : "A value of 0 disables rotating
and is set as default for backward compatibility."

I'd suggest that by default, if binary logs have to be used (which is
not obvious to me), they should be purged at some time not to fill up
the /var.

At least this should be explained to the user in README.Debian or
something (or configured at installation time).

Best regards.
