"Extra care should be taken when uploading to stable. Basically,
a package should only be uploaded to stable if one of the
    following happens:

    - a truly critical functionality problem

    - the package becomes uninstallable

    - a released architecture lacks the package"

I have previously tried to fix minor bugs (similar to this one) and had
the changes rejected by the Release Team. The Release Team reviews the
.diff of all proposed changes and only accepts those changes that they
deem serious enough to merit accepting.

With this understanding, if you still feel passionate enough about this
problem, you could contact the Release Team and ask if they would accept
an upload to Stable for a package that has a documentation bug
mentioning an additional support package that has been removed from the
archive 4 years ago. If they'd be willing to accept such an upload then
I'd probably be willing to prepare one.
