This causes serious problems with Jessie->Stretch upgrades. Everyone who uses iptraf will end up with a broken package because there was no transition at all[1]. The only change made was setting "Provides: iptraf" on iptraf-ng, which is not enough.
I propose, in order to fix this, to reintroduce the iptraf package on Unstable/Testing as a dummy package depending on iptraf-ng. This will make users upgrading to Stretch from Jessie automatically fetch iptraf-ng. I didn't properly test a Jessie->Stretch upgrade, but i'm assuming that this problem exists based on the fact that this occurred on unstable and knowing how packaging works, if i'm wrong, please explain. I know we are at freeze but this should be a fair reason to upload a NEW dummy package to unstable. I'm changing the bug priority, please feel free to change it again if its wrong. Also, i can help with the fix, given the maintainers permission to do so. [1]https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=842355 Samuel Henrique <samueloph>
