Dear Andreas, You are right in that the problem does not seem to occur anymore.
The crash seems to have been within libc.so.6 and that was updated since my report: package libc6 changed from version 2.24-11+deb9u1 to 2.24-11+deb9u3 . (The last command itself was updated also, package util-linux changed from version 2.29.2-1 to 2.29.2-1+deb9u1.) Running the old "last" (but with the current libc.so.6) does not reproduce the problem, and I do not want to downgrade libc6 to test. I guess you may close this bug.
