Most probably a build-dependency was to blame for this one, yes, but I
don't know which one exactly. Instead of wontfix, I would try to find
the buggy build-dependency (even if it's already fixed) and use
reassign and affects, as I suggested in my initial report.

I've noticed that this bug has made the package to be autoremoved.
I'm really sorry for that. I can't always determine easily if a
package has to adapt to new requirements or a build-dependency is to
blame, as in this case.

I would hope so, as this was definitely not the package's fault, but I
guess you will have to ask for it explicitly because of the freeze.
