No doubt, documentation would be good.

I think the most apporiate medium would be introduction of README in
bin:runit and short entry in debian/NEWS, like sysvinit does it.

As I remember, git still provides runscript in separate package and does
not use dh-runit. How complicated would it be to create patch for
src:git that would at least prevented regression due hidden link change?
