Indeed. This is what I was looking for, but what comes up on texdoc etex doesn't mention \uselanguage, and actually looking for language or hyphenation in there just yields a discussion of lccode, which didn't help me a lot the other day. The document's introduction, on the other hand, sounded more more like there's only additions to the DEK tex feature set (this as an excuse for wasting your time). Now, I give you etex is probably somewhat ancient and perhaps we shouldn't bother, but as a wishlist item I might mention "Make wherever doc you found uselanguage in a bit better discoverable within texdoc or some other kind of documentation". > Usage of languages are different in etex and latex, you cannot use > ngerman.sty - or at least not as is.
