After following my own advice I find that parport_pc and ppdev are loaded. lp doesn't get loaded, even when the printer is attached. It seems to me that the ppdev and parport_pc lines in cups-filters.conf are superfluous with kernel 5.3.0-1. Whether the lp module should be loaded for everyone is a decision I leave to someone else.
