This issue has been frequently reported upstream (I'm the upstream Pinta maintainer) and seemed to be a bug in some versions of Mono / gtksharp. Updating to the latest stable Mono release was reported to avoid the crashes. This is also obsolete with the recently-released Pinta 2.0, which uses dotnet-runtime-6.0
