 I've heard some cdrecord upstream versions you distribute would be
 incompatible with the DFSG (Debian Free Software Guidelines), perhaps
 this would explain why Debian can't stick to the upstream source.

 Is this true, even remotely?  Or is cdrecord under a plain Free
 Software license that couldn't cause any problem to Debian to use?
