I agree with what Andreas' wrote - in general for almost all packages it makes maintenance easier to split upstream development from downstream packaging work. That being said - my main interest here is getting ifupdown2 in Debian (and thus also as a baseline for my dayjob further downstream) in a better shape. If you absolutely want to keep the packaging on GH, and commit to regularly uploading to unstable from there, that works for me as well - I don't want to step on your toes at all :) I won't have time this week, but will try to forward some fixes and updates to you next week!
