Yes, that works!  (Well, with /dev/hda3, but who's counting.)
Suggest updating/simplifying the HOWTO.

But it doesn't call "update-initramfs -u", and it requires figuring
out which kernel packages are installed and reconfiguring them each,
which is a hassle to explain in a HOWTO.  Advantage: update-initramfs.
