This problem still exists in Sid. It can be worked around by using an 
older libfreetype6, and described in an earlier post, but not, AFAICT, 
by any other means.

I'm sorely tempted to raise this to RC, since we really shouldn't ship 
an Etch where users of openoffice.org-kde and openoffice.org-gnome 
(i.e. a lot of people) have to put up with garbage fonts in a major 
application.

Is upstream aware of this issue? Is it really a bug in OOO.org?
