Sorry, Frank. Please reopen this bug. I've checked with the latest pbbuttonsd and xorg in sid (other packages from testing). When unplugged from the power supply, the screen still goes dark and eventually the machine goes to sleep *regardless* of *any* use of the trackpad. So it would seem the work-around doesn't.
