Package: smartmontools Version: 5.37-1 Severity: normal For some reason (curiosity) I disabled the the "SMART Automatic Offline Testing" for my harddrive with: smartctl -d ata -o off /dev/sda which worked fine. Now smartctl tells me that it is disabled (before it was enabled). But now smartctl is unable to reenable it. "smartctl -d ata -o on /dev/sda" only display following message: === START OF ENABLE/DISABLE COMMANDS SECTION === Error SMART Enable Automatic Offline failed: Input/output error Smartctl: SMART Enable Automatic Offline Failed.
There is no output on dmesg. I'm using a Hitachi HTS541080G9AT00 from the Travelstar 5K100 series in a Thinkpad T43 Laptop connected over sata. -- Package-specific info: Ouput of /usr/share/bug/smartmontools: -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (600, 'unstable'), (200, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4 Locale: LANG=de_CH.UTF8, LC_CTYPE=de_CH.UTF8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages smartmontools depends on: ii debianutils 2.17 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc1 1:4.1.1-19 GCC support library ii libstdc++6 4.1.1-19 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii lsb-base 3.1-22 Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip Versions of packages smartmontools recommends: ii mailx 1:8.1.2-0.20050715cvs-1 A simple mail user agent -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
