It is 120 days since this wish was filed by Florian Ladstaedter and your answer was to wait for the next Debian release: sarge. That seems to be in the indefinite future if I am to believe what I read.
So, how about putting nedit 5.5 in unstable (or if you cannot bring yourself to do that), at least in experimental?
