Package: bmpx
Version: 0.40.11+debian-1
Severity: normal

invoking either bmpx or bmp2 on the command line results in
a splash screen appearing (which obscures anything
underneath it and refuses to be moved or to sit below
anything else). This splash screen displays "Initializing
LastFM (Radio)" and appears to be blocking on this.

Looking at the processes' sockets:

beep-medi 18791 jon 17u IPv4 68390
TCP ANKH.ncl.ac.uk:37708->py-in-f99.google.com:www
(SYN_SENT)

This will fail because I need to use a HTTP proxy to
access outbound port 80.

I have specified a http proxy in my environment using the
$http_proxy environment variable, and also in my GNOME
network preferences. It would be nice if bmpx would pick
the setting up from one of those places.

If I do not wait for it to timeout, I can see
/usr/lib/beep-media-player-2-bin that will not die if I
send it a TERM. Sending it a KILL removes the splash
screen.

As a side-note, is there any reason for
/usr/lib/beep-media-player-2-bin to reparent away from
bmp[x2]?

If I do wait for a time out, the splash does eventually
disappear and bmpx appear. But my desktop is effectively
inoperable in the mean time due to the splash.
