No.  That is incorrect logic.  There doesn't have to be a first.

I think the only reasonable name for a command to "list" files to a
print device is the "ls" command.  The only reasonable name to get a
"catalog" of the directory is to use the "cat" command.  One should
"join" files head to tail.  These are obviously better names.  Who
will be the first to correct the last three decades of naming?
