Package: python-chardet Version: 1.0.1-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch I wanted a command-line tool using 'python-chardet' to report on the detected character encoding of arbitrary specified files. So I wrote one.
The patch 'chardet-1.0.1_unit-test-scaffold.patch' adds unit test support modules that I used to develop the program, and may be useful for adding more unit tests in future. The patch 'chardet-1.0.1_detect-encoding-program.patch' adds a unit test module for the program (which depends on the scaffolding in the above patch), and the program 'bin/detect-encoding' (which doesn't depend on anything except Python and python-chardet). I hope these additions can be included in the upstream and/or Debian package of 'python-chardet', to save others time in using it, and to expose its main functionality in command-line form. -- \ "They can not take away our self respect if we do not give it | `\ to them." -- Mahatma Gandhi | _o__) | Ben Finney <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
