Yesterday I spent one frustrated hour before I found that. Short summary how it worked for me: I had to remove network.protocol-handler.app.mailto in about:config, rename mimeTypes.rdf and restart Iceweasel. Then right-clicking on a link and choosing "Send Link..." popped up a dialog from which I could select my preferred email program.
