Please do. It would also be useful to know if:
 1) the -486 kernel works for you
 2) a 2.6.26 -686 kernel works for you. 2.6.26 builds are
    available in the trunk snapshot repository, see
    http://wiki.debian.org/DebianKernel for information on installing
    snapshot builds (should work fine on an etch system)
