Well, reportbug asked me which package it related to and I tried saying it was general: <quote> Enter a package: 7 Are you sure this bug doesn't apply to a specific package? [y|N|q|?]? </quote> but it *does* apply to a specific package, it's just that that package (emacs21) isn't the one with the bug ! Earlier today I decided to uninstall emacs21, but doing so broke: python-mode records-gnuemacs w3-el-e21 w3-url-e21 xslide While I can believe the w3-*-e21 packages might really depend on emacs21, I'm fairly sure the others don't; however, all of these packages *say* they depend on emacs21, not emacs - possibly because they depend on emacs > 20. There may be others that likewise misdescribe themselves (I just don't have them installed).
