Hi. The functionality you're talking about was introduced in wordpress 2.5.1 only on wordpress.com but was not released in the public source code for wordpress 2.5.x. However this feature will be available in wordpress 2.6 when it hits Debian. If you have non-flash related problems using the uploader you should read the wordpress official guide to make the flash uploader work properly [1]. Thank you for reporting. Regards.
