The freeze is not slim, it is most probably the X server. When X
freezes, it also freezes your keyboard and all your pointer devices.
If you have an openssh server installed, you should still be able to
log in from a remote machine.

On this bug I had need someone experienced with X. And did you really
need to put the severity on critical?
