Package: pcaputils Version: 0.8-1 Severity: wishlist
It would be nice to have an option of pcapdump to run a given program after the file rotation, with the name of the file being passed as a parameter to the program. I suggest to name the option -k (to kick in, I presume), after the similar option of dnscap. I quote dnscap's man page: -k cmd After each dump file specified by -w is closed, this command will be executed in a nonblocking subprocess with the file name as its one argument. It's expected that this command will be a shell script that submits the finished file to a batch processing analytics system. Note that without -k, the program will exit at the first output closure due to -c or -t. Security note: pcapdump typically runs as root. Either we need another option, to switch to another user before running the program, or we simply decide that root, being a Big Boy, checks the program before running pcapdump -k. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages pcaputils depends on: ii libc6 2.9-25 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libjudydebian1 1.0.5-1 C library for creating and accessi ii libpcap0.8 1.0.0-2 system interface for user-level pa pcaputils recommends no packages. pcaputils suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
