To keep this bug up2date:

I talked to upstream (who is a bit busy right now) and he'll have a look
at the situation. We will provide a fix ASAP and probably let it into
the next point release. I suppose, the release team agrees that it would
be best.

The problem seems to be that per sieve RFC after logging in through TLS
the server's capabilities should be listed automatically. Older
implementations didn't do that but dovecot does - thus the patch I
applied for 1.9.7-6+lenny1. Unfortunately I just figured that even
newest cyrus servers don't follow RFC as closely as expected and so the
patch breaks existing configurations.

As said, a fix will come up soon hopefully.
