The crash might be related to my locale configuration, but I have been unable to start gnome-shell with another locale to check.

Or to the name of the file. Does the file name, or its title (as it
appears in the window title) have accented characters in it?

no, I tried with a simple empty test.ods, which crashed gnome-shell when dragged on a desktop. The window title (after the crash) was just:

"test.ods - OpenOffice.org"

Now maybe the "-" or the " " is an invalid UTF-8 code, but I have no way to check that.

Thanks,
