Here, I get a failure to uncompress the file (with the Debian package), and no problem running my own compile. I'll see if I can reproduce the Debian package's settings and perhaps spot a problem with valgrind.
You may be able to get a core-dump with the "-core" option.
Using that
gdb /usr/bin/lynx core
traceback
might show where it's dying...
