Package: hal Version: 0.5.14-1 Severity: normal
When running hal the load average on this acer travelmate 5730 is constantly at about 1.00. Shutting down hal reduces the load to near zero values. Top constantly shows udevd running, and I initially expected udevd to be the source of the problem. I purged all software depending on hal from my system (in addition to hal mainly gdm and software depending on gdm) and the problem was gone. After a fresh hal reinstallation the load returned to 1.00 values. Other (desktop) computers I maintain that are running hal do not show the high load. Stopping hal reduces the load (of cource rendering the computer useless). Stopping gdm does not reduce the load. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-2-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages hal depends on: ii adduser 3.111 add and remove users and groups ii dbus 1.2.16-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii hal-info 20091130-1 Hardware Abstraction Layer - fdi f ii libblkid1 2.16.2-0 block device id library ii libc6 2.10.2-2 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.16-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.82-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libexpat1 2.0.1-6 XML parsing C library - runtime li ii libglib2.0-0 2.22.3-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libhal-storage1 0.5.14-1 Hardware Abstraction Layer - share ii libhal1 0.5.14-1 Hardware Abstraction Layer - share ii libusb-0.1-4 2:0.1.12-13 userspace USB programming library ii lsb-base 3.2-23 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii mount 2.16.2-0 Tools for mounting and manipulatin ii pciutils 1:3.1.4-4 Linux PCI Utilities ii udev 149-1 /dev/ and hotplug management daemo ii usbutils 0.86-2 Linux USB utilities Versions of packages hal recommends: ii consolekit 0.4.1-2 framework for defining and trackin ii eject 2.1.5+deb1+cvs20081104-7 ejects CDs and operates CD-Changer ii pm-utils 1.2.6.1-3 utilities and scripts for power ma Versions of packages hal suggests: pn gnome-device-manager <none> (no description available) -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
