I'm trying to install Frugalware in a kvm virtual machine, with the following
command : $ kvm -hda vm/frugalwarelibellule.img -cdrom
images/frugalware-1.2-i686-net.iso -boot d -m 512 -net
nic,macaddr=52:54:00:12:34:66,model=ne2k_pci -net tap,ifname=tap11,script=no I
have tried whith i686 and x86_64 iso images, net-install and first DVD, and
each time I have the following in the console : Starting SeaBIOS (version
0.5.1-20100311_174800-excelsior) Booting from CD-Rom... 60MB medium detected
Loading stage2 .... And that's all, it stays like that using 100 % of one core
undefinitely. The same command line works fine with a Debian or archlinux (for
instance) iso image. Is it a qemu/kvm or frugalware bug ?
I downloaded the image:
8c0ca7e1ba15fc99dcfef6077969330c frugalware-1.2-i686-net.iso
(63549440 bytes) and fired it in kvm - it works just fine for
me with qemu-kvm_0.12.3+dfsg-4 from squeeze.
Actually their bootloader is eating 100% cpu during all time,
probably in a loop waiting for keyboard events. And it is
graphical too, and graphics mode gets turned on right after
"Loading stage 2" message. So I've a question: does your
environment provide graphics support for kvm?
Also, try hitting "enter" - it should go load kernel, at which
point cpu usage drops to near 0 - if it does, we'll know it's
just display issue. And another possible try: run it with
-vga std option.
