That's due to the fact, because you didn't had installed xlibmesa-dri yet.
The DRI is the "hardware accelleration part" of the X11 3D architecture.

This seem to be similar symptons as described in 
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=321898

Do you have AGP support enabled/is your graphics adapter AGP capable?
