Check which VNC server xrdp is using:
$ readlink -f /usr/bin/Xvnc

If  you use  Xvnc4, could  you try  to access  your Gnome  Desktop using
directly VNC:

$ echo exec /etc/xrdp/startwm.sh > ~/.vnc/xstartup
$ chmod +x ~/.vnc/xstartup
$ vnc4server

Then  connect using  a VNC  client.  If you  get the  same problem,  the
problem should be  with vnc4server.
