Subject: /etc should not be used for runtime data Package: ifupdown Version: 0.6.8+nmu1 Severity: normal
Hi, /etc is to be used for configuration and not to store runtime data like /etc/network/run. FHS 2.3 defines that /etc may not hold excutable binary or dynamic data. As /etc/network/run is used under runtime it should be moved elsewhere and should not be in /etc. Best, Kacper -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.6 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.35-22-generic (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) (ignored: LC_ALL set to C) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages ifupdown depends on: ii libc6 2.7-18lenny4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii lsb-base 3.2-20 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii net-tools 1.60-22 The NET-3 networking toolkit ifupdown recommends no packages.
