First, let's reassign this bugreport to usb-modeswitch-data where it belongs,
as it is this "data" package that handles the files under
/etc/usb_modeswitch.d.

Then, while I agree with your bugreport (upgrading to ">= 20101222-3" is
_very_ verbose), I don't think I will fix it, and here's why : as you can see
from the source package, I am using dh_installdeb's *.maintscript file (that
creates dpkg-maintscript-helper lines in all the maintainer scripts) to handle
the removal of all those (now obsolete) configuration files. This permits me
to store this information in _one_ file and delegates all the conffiles dance
to debhelper and dpkg-maintscript-helper.

So, written differently: the verbosity level of dpkg-maintscript-helper is not
under my control. I could rewrite it's functionality in all the usb-
modeswitch-data's maintainer scripts or try to hack around it in the
*.maintscript file (which I don't think will succeed), but all-in-all, it's a
overly verbose _upgrade_; so it will happen _once_ in the Squeeze-Wheezy
upgrade. I don't see that as a big drawback.

But of course, if one wants to provide a patch that keeps the simplicity of
the *.maintscript file while reducing the verbosity, I'm all ears.

Cheers,
