Package: bitcoind Version: 0.3.21~dfsg-1 Severity: wishlist The package lacks documentation : 1. The package summary should clarify that only bitcoind is included and that the user must make separate provision if the bitcoin GUI client is desired. 2. If it is intended that Debian will provide bitcoind and bitcoin (the GUI) as a single package then suitable guidance should be given. If it is, for example, presently recommended to uninstall the Debian package and to self-compile bitcoind and bitcoin from sources to operate the GUI, some guidance should be given. 3. The manual pages for bitcoind and bitcoin.conf are useful and complete. They provide guidance on running the bitcoin daemon via a terminal and commandline. Some recommendations on howto startup and shutdown the daemon would upgrade this part of the package in line with the features normally provided by Debian via init.d. 4. A (brief) discussion on the security of the bitcoind binary and package vs compiling from source would enhance the package. As far as I can tell, while it is desirable from a security point of view for the user to compile at least the GUI (bitcoin) himself, this is presently beyond the ability of the novice Debian user. 5. In the /doc/bitcoind/README file the Setup instructions recommend that four binary files be run. This seems unnecessary, as the package provides a binary - /usr/bin/bitcoind.
