Host OS: Debian testing , kernel 2.6.32-5-amd64
o Debian bug found by googling the error message

--Just wanted to report that I was briefly bitten by this bug after upgrading
to:

ii  libvte-common                        1:0.28.1-1
Terminal emulator widget for GTK+ - commo
ii  libvte9                              1:0.28.1-1
Terminal emulator widget for GTK+ 2.0 - r

--Opening a new tab in gnome-terminal got the error.  Existing tabs, including
one running " screen -aAO " were not affected.

--Opening a new gnome-terminal window from the existing window did not fix;
only exiting out of all instances of gnome-terminal and restarting it from
scratch did the trick.  Note: Hitting Control-M worked as a jackleg workaround
when hitting Enter failed.

--Trying ' export TERM=rxvt ^M ' from the stricken gnome-terminal did not fix.

--rxvt was not affected by the bug.

// might want to put a big warning message on the package there.
/// Thank you for your support :-)
