are you sure this is a bug in Mason or rather an error handler that's less selective than it should be? Anyway, there seems to be a similar bug with patch in the upstream RT at https://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=49031, so I'm marking this bug as forwarded.
