Hello everyone,

I recently ran across the same issue (though be it with a different
version of usb-modeswitch) and since this one wasn't closed I thought I'd
report my findings.

Versions (debian squeeze, using backports)
usb-modeswitch (1.1.9-2~bpo60+1)
usb-modeswitch-data (20110805-1~bpo60+1)

Summary:
the filesystem that the temporary config was being extracted to was
read-only and the usb_modeswitch_dispatcher terminates with an error.

Same issue as reported in this report, hotplug worked fine, cold boot
failed. Did some udev debugging and saw the dispatcher did get started.
Did some more debugging, changing scripts here and there (to prevent
forking to the background and redirecting output) and finally saw that due
to /root being mounted read-only on boot, usb-modeswitch failed to extract
the right config from the data tarball.

I extracted the config manually placed it in the right folder and
everything was working fine after that.

Hope it helps,

S. Geerts
