The MINIMAL d-i profile for d-e machine installation does not install
NetworkManager by default. Due to this, the hostname will not be set
via DHCP automatically.

The original design is not to install NetworkManager to fix this, but to
enable the /etc/init.d/update-hostname script calling
/usr/bin/update-hostname-from-ip to update the hostname at boot time.
NetworkManager were not used because it would only enable network
connections when a user log in, and not at boot.

NetworkManager were only installed on standalone and roaming workstation
profiles in the original design.

Why isn't this design working any more?

The update-hostname script usage has been removed from d-e-c some time during the developer meeting in Hamburg...

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=629060

So basically, what the minimal profile needs is installation of network-manager during d-i.

Greets,
Mike
